Pit bull and other dog bite attacks are the pits

February 10th, 2009

Throughout America, the story’s the same: Innocent people are mauled, injured and even killed due to dog bite attacks, and often these involve pit bulls. That was the case last weekend forĀ  a Nebraska woman who was critically injured by a pit bull.

Now, there’s no need for pit bull fans to overreact and rant, “You’ll only take my pit bull from my cold dead fingers.” No one is saying that all pit bulls are vicious killers. And no one is saying that only pit bulls, among all dog breeds, attack humans. And no one is saying that a person should not be allowed to own a pit bull. Shoulder pain pump injury merits a lawyer

February 4th, 2009

You say you went to the hospital for help — and you left the hospital not healed, but hurt?

Chances are you’ve had arthroscopic shoulder surgery, during which a shoulder pain pump was improperly inserted into your shoulder.

Ideally, a shoulder pain pump should deliver pain-easing narcotic medication to the shoulder after surgery in small, intermittent doses. Due to manufacturer design defects and improper directions to physicians, some shoulder pain pumps, when inserted directly into the shoulder joint, can cause cartilage deterioration and, ultimately, severe chronic pain.

Texting drivers get car accident wakeup call

February 3rd, 2009

Maybe you recall seeing drivers education footage showing what not to do behind the wheel. Often such lessons start as fun, with a clownish actor frantically shaving, eating, consulting maps and even reading a book while doing a lousy job of driving a car. But even with a sobering punchline about car accidents, the real joke is on all of us, now that texting while driving has entered the equation.

A recent survey for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. reveals that 19 per cent of motorists admit to texting while driving. The real amount is probably higher, since not everyone will admit doing something so stupid. In fact, another survey in Massachusetts indicates that 28 per cent of people text while driving.

Another survey shows that 26 per cent of mobile phone users tend to text while driving — and that 60 per cent of drivers 16 to 19 years old text while operating the two-ton machine known as a car.

Such behavior, in effect, is unleashing millions more drunk drivers on America’s roads. That’s because text-messaging distractions, as studies show, are the equivalent of being drunk while driving, hampering attention, reaction and overall ability to drive.
